Family Support Helps This Young Mom Parent

My experience being a young mom so far has been great because of my family support. Even with help from loved ones, I still had rough moments. Moments where I was sleep deprived and having to balance school and being a full time mom.

I found out I was pregnant when I was 19 years old. Honestly I was nervous but happy because I was told I couldn’t get pregnant in the first place. My boyfriend, now my fiancé, were both of our families were all happy. I felt complete knowing everyone was supporting us and all the love we have for us and the pregnancy. After our son Aiden was born there we had sleepless nights, where he was crying loudly and constantly hungry; this definitely took a toll on our bodies and minds. Our Aiden outgrew the sleepless nights and on occasions still wakes up in the middle of the night. However, my fiancé and I take turns since we both have to be up early in the morning.

Going Back to Work After Having My Child

I tried to go back to work after my pregnancy but I wasn’t ready to leave Aiden. I would miss him too much. When I would come home after work and pick Aiden up but he would burst out crying as if he didn’t know me and that would upset me. I did – and still – have a lot of help from my fiancé and mine family. We appreciate all the time and support.

My fiancé works full time and after Aiden turned one year old I went back to school. My mom has Aiden from 8:00am to 1:00pm while I am in school. When I leave school I come straight home and take care of him  while my fiancé is at work and my mom heads to work. I balance being a full time mom and full time student well. Although I waited until Aiden was one-year-old it’s still a bit of a challenge. Managing homework time and play time for Aiden is necessary to make sure both get accomplished. On my fiancé’s off days he has Aiden while I do any left over school work.

My Family and I Are A Team

My fiancé is the best father to Aiden, I learn something new from Aiden every day. Having our son made me more mature and I love being Aiden’s mom.  I am grateful for the help I have received from our families and I enjoy watching Aiden grow into this smart and healthy child and us as his parents will grow with him.

A year went by so fast and I am looking forward to the future. Never be afraid of being a young mom because although it might be challenging you are young and strong enough to get to be a wonderful parent to a gift that was given to you.
